Introduced to German tank units in 1942, the Tiger I was the most powerful tank at that time and remained so for almost three years. The Tiger I was produced from late 1942 as an answer to the unexpectedly formidable Soviet armour encountered in the initial months of Operation Barbarossa (the invasion of Russia).. The Tiger I design gave the Wehrmacht its first tank mounting the 88 mm gun. During the course of the war, the Tiger I saw combat on all German battlefronts. It was usually deployed in independent tank battalions, which proved to be quite formidable. Over-engineered, un-reliable, expensive and time-consuming to produce, only 1,347 were built between August 1942 and August 1944, which was simply not enough compared to the massive production of the Soviet's T-34 and the U.S.'s Sherman.This is a plastic model kit which requires construction and painting (paints, glue and brushes will have to be purchased separately).
